What is a cell? What is a scientific model?
What is abstract art? What is realistic art? What is an art installation?
In our latest Integrated Arts unit, 5th grade students created both abstract and realistic models of plant and animal cells. They painted scientific models on cherry tree stumps, and explored the shapes and arrangement of cells and their organelles via abstract paper sculpture. The product of their investigation is an art installation, or a work of art meant to take over a space. Click the gallery images below to view it. As a celebration of their completion of the project, both classes visited the Fleming Museum today to look for examples of abstract and realistic art.
