Exaggeration and Emotions in Art and Theater Ms. Leaphart is working with Flynn teaching artist Susanna Olson to integrate theater activities with the visual art curriculum. As part of that collaboration, students in the 2nd grade are embarking on an art & theater unit about showing emotions. They are learning to use their faces and bodies to show different feelings, and they are transferring that learning to their visual art. Using cut paper and marker, the students explored how moving the eyebrows and mouth on a face can change an expression entirely. Check out their EXAGGERATED expressions!
1 point perspective drawings in progress: Thanks to a donation from Seventh Generation, each student in grades 1-5 now has a sketchbook in the art studio! These 200+ books are being transformed into artists’ books as we speak, with original artwork on each page. Our 4th grade artists are designing one point perspective covers for their books, making geometric shapes appear to pop out into the viewers’ space. Students will finish painting their designs and backgrounds this week. Check out their careful, vibrant work in progress!
